Public School Academies are publicly funded, independently managed schools that have the flexibility to innovate the educational setting but are held accountable for student achievement. There are 97 Public School Academies (PSAs) in Wayne County serving 53,000 students. Based on the 2010-11 Unaudited State aid Membership, this population represents 16% of the county's 313,000 students. Wayne RESA is proud to have been the first ISD in Michigan to authorize, or charter, a public school academy.

WRESA authorizes 7 public school academies: Blanche K. Bruce Strict Discipline Academy, Casa Richard Academy, Creative Montessori Academy, Detroit Midtown Academy, Henry Ford Academy, McGivney School Detroit, and Lincoln-King Academy.
