MISTAR Data & Assessment Quarterly Fall 2015

MISTAR DataAssessment masthead

Wayne RESA’s Data and Assessment team is thoroughly enjoying the work of helping Wayne County schools and districts successfully implement the MI STAR Data and Assessment initiative. At this time, all districts previously using CLASS A have the capability of integrating the new system throughout their districts. Our Data and Assessment team will continue to collaborate around support systems that will help districts maximize the use of this tool to support student learning. If your district is experiencing challenges with any aspect of the implementation, please do not hesitate to share your feedback so that we can support you appropriately.

As a first step, our team has initiated a process to provide support to in-district training teams for the technical implementation of these new data tools and resources. The purpose of this model is to build capacity within the district to continue guiding and leading others. This support consists of a Phase I training that introduces new users to basic navigation and system functions. The audience for this training should be the district’s internal MISTAR Data and Assessment support team. Following this training, district teams will receive a Phase II training that includes deeper exploration of the tool and provides additional onsite coordination with the existing technical infrastructure.

At this time, 27 district teams have participated in the Phase I training. A total of 11 districts have received both Phase I and Phase II training with their lead data team. If you are interested in scheduling one of these sessions or would like more information, please contact Yolanda Johnson at johnsoy@resa.net or Marilyn Vick at vickm@resa.net.

Following this initial training with MISTAR Data and Assessment, we have multiple opportunities for district staff to receive professional learning on the use of this instructional tool in the context of student learning. Sessions will target instructional staff and focus on using a data management system to inform educators and support effective decision-making. Some of the sessions that are available this year include:

  • Using MISTAR Data and Assessment to Promote a Balanced Assessment System
  • Building Quality Local Assessments in MISTAR Data and Assessment
  • Using MISTAR to Support Classroom Instruction and Assessment
  • Using MISTAR Data and Assessment to Inform Decisions about Student Learning
  • Administering SAT Practice Assessments in MISTAR
  • Accessing and Utilizing Unit Level Social Studies Assessments in MISTAR

These sessions will be held at Wayne RESA and participants may register online here. Modified versions of any of these sessions may be available as in-district professional development as well. Please fill out a Professional Development Request Form here.

In addition to the opportunities for professional learning, we will be inviting district representatives to participate in a county-wide MISTAR Data and Assessment Client Group. This group will meet on a quarterly basis for the purpose of networking and collaborating across Wayne County and to ensure the highest level of support for all districts. These meetings are expected to begin in January 2016. For more information, please contact Lena Nemeth nemethl@resa.net
