The Environments Group had been working on cleaning up some of the toughest enviro-hazard zones on Earth - it was no surprise to them to find microbes living in a radioactive seep or an acid spill-out. Their idea of fun was boiling water, frozen subzeroes, gooey gunk - so the Xlife challenge of finding life in extreme environments had them chomping at the bit.
