Biology Assessment Development Project
We are looking for educators with a strong content knowledge of the Michigan High School Content Expectations in Biology. This project will focus on the development of biology assessment items and a common assessment that can be used to measure proficiency of the biology expectations for learning.
This project consists of seven full days of professional development and collaborative work time. Participants will gain a deep understanding of the biology expectations as we work to deconstruct and determine the specific skills necessary to master knowledge of these standards. In addition, participants will be provided with item writing training and guided practice in developing appropriate assessments to match instruction and measure student knowledge of the standards. Furthermore, each participant will learn how to create items and assessments in the CLASS A assessment system.
At the conclusion of this project, we anticipate that we will have a series of biology common assessments to be made available to all Wayne County districts through the CLASS A system.
Participation requires attendance on all seven days of the project (see dates below). If you are a classroom teacher, and require a substitute teacher during the scheduled dates of professional development, Wayne RESA will cover all substitute costs incurred by your district. SB-CEU credit will also be available.
If you are interested in participating in this project, please complete the application form and submit it by attaching it to an email to Deidre Thornsbury at firstname.lastname@example.org . Or you may fax the completed form to 734.334.1857. The deadline for submitting the application is Friday, October 15, 2010. We will be notifying accepted participants by Friday, October 22, 2010.
