School Nurses Consulting Services Cost-Sharing Program Access and Utilization Guide
Services Available Upon Request
- Review of and recommendations on district health policies and procedures.
- Free attendance for school staff to the foundational training, Safe and Legal Support of Students with Health and Medication Needs.
- Assistance in securing appropriate individual Medication Administration Authorizations (MAAs) and Medical Management Plans (MMPs)
- Facilitated trainings to support safe implementation of individual MMPs for all identified students, including:

- Access to templates of necessary forms;
- Review of completed MAA and MMP forms;
- General Tier 1 (Awareness) sessions on recognizing and beginning the response to potential health-related emergencies;
- Student-Specific Tier 2 (Emergency Care) and Tier 3 (Daily Care and Support) training sessions with the identified school health teams and parents/guardians;
- Unlimited consultation for safe and legal school support of identified students’ health needs.
- Free attendance for school staff to Medical Emergency Response Team (M.E.R.T.) Training.
- Communicable disease guidance and support.
- Assistance with utilization of Health Module in MISTAR.

Safe & Legal Support for Students with Health and Medication Needs: PreK-12
- It is recommended that a minimum of four people from each building receive this training (generally the Building Administrator, two Designated School Personnel (DSP), and a back-up DSP).
- There is no cost to attend for schools participating in the School Nurse Consulting Services Cost-Sharing Program. Please email our Administrative Assistant Arlo McMillian at mcmilla@resa.net to get your staff registered.
Meeting Training Request Form
- Use this form to request meetings/trainings with a Wayne RESA nurse.
- Please note that we are implementing a more efficient process for requesting services described in the next section.

Nurse Email Protocol (Nurse@resa.net)
- Complete the fillable Meeting/Training Request Form
- Include at least two dates and times that work for the school staff and parent (if applicable).
- Email to Nurse@resa.net, the:
- Completed Meeting/Training Request Form;
- Student’s Medical Management Plan(s)/Health Care Provider Order(s); and
- Student’s Medication Administration Authorization Form(s).
- A nurse will send a timely response with confirmation of the date and time of requested services or provide you with our first availability if we are unable to accommodate your initial request.
Spring Planning for the Upcoming School Year
- In preparing for the start of a new school year, many schools opt to reserve time in August or early September for parent meetings and staff training.
- The details regarding how you will use the reserved time is submitted the week prior to your reserved time using the Nurse@resa.net Email Protocol described above.
- We also receive requests to schedule parent meetings in the spring of current year for students with lengthy Medical Management Plans (e.g. students with diabetes) and for students transitioning to a new building or program.
- If you are interested in either of these options, please email Nurse@resa.net. Include your preferred dates and times and we will do our very best to accommodate.
Who Needs Training
Tier 1 (Awareness)
All School Staff
- Approximately 15 minutes per health condition.
- The Big 4 (Diabetes, Asthma, Allergy, Seizures) should be delivered every school year.
- Scheduling delivery on Professional Development Days or during Staff Meetings works well for many schools.
Tier 2 (Emergency Care)
MERT Team members, Student-Specific Teachers, Additional Personnel (e.g., Coaches, Extra-curricular Staff Leaders, Bus Drivers, etc.)
- Time varies depending on health condition (refer to chart on Meeting/Training Request Form).
- Schedule as close to the start of the school year as possible and as needed throughout the school year, or as soon as possible following diagnosis.
Tier 3 (Daily Care & Support)
Student-specific Health Team, generally 4-6 people (e.g., Building Administrator, two Designated School Personnel (DSP), and at least one back-up DSP)
- Time varies depending on health condition (refer to chart on Meeting/Training Request Form).
- Schedule as close to the start of the school year as possible and as needed throughout the school year, or as soon as possible following diagnosis.
