Beginning School Bus Driver Training

Training at Wayne RESA is scheduled for 3-1/2 days; Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 7:00 am to 1:00 pm and Friday from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm, unless otherwise indicated. Beginning School Bus Driver classes for the 2012/2013 school year are listed below.

Receipt of Enrollment Cards

Please remember that although districts may enroll drivers in any of these classes, enrollment cards cannot be received until 90 days prior to the class date. Enroll Here

Advanced School Bus Driver Training

Mandated School Bus Driver Continuing Education classes are available on the following dates:

COURSE FEE: $20

This is a state-mandated continuing education requirement. All classes are scheduled from 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. (six hours, excluding breaks). Attendance is required for all six hours in order to successfully complete this class. Lunch will be provided.

(Please Note: Per the State of Michigan Pupil Transportation Public Act 187, Section 257.1851: Every current school bus driver holding a green or yellow education card that expires on Sept. 30, 2013 must attend a six-hour school bus driver continuing education class by that expiration date.)

Drivers who do not complete this continuing education requirement by September 30, 2013 will be required to complete the four-day Beginning School Bus Driver Training course in order to remain legally eligible to drive a school bus.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR SELF-EMPLOYED DRIVERS

Although most school bus drivers are enrolled into a continuing education class by the school district or contractor for which they work, there are also many drivers who are SELF-EMPLOYED. A driver is considered to be SELF-EMPLOYED if he/she falls into one of the following categories:

Retired school bus driver
School bus driver in between employers (or unemployed)

If you are a self-employed driver and you wish to keep your driving credentials current, you must enroll yourself using our online enrollment form (using the link above). (Enrollments CANNOT be taken over the phone.) Additionally, you must mail your course fee ($20 check or money order) to our office in order to receive your enrollment confirmation. (We cannot confirm enrollments for self-employed drivers until the course fee is received at our office.) Please mail your check or money order to:

Once we receive your completed online enrollment form AND your $20 course fee, we will mail a confirmation letter to the address included on your enrollment form.

Transportation Supervisors

Mandated Transportation Supervisor Training

May 20, 2013 - Education Center (Second Floor Auditorium)
May 28, 2013 - Education Center (Second Floor Auditorium)

(There is NO fee for this training.)   

The Michigan Department of Education has separated transportation supervisor training into two segments. Three hours shall be taken in 2013 and three hours in 2014 to be eligible for a supervisor card. 

The 2013 three-hour training session will be held in the Wayne RESA Education Center in the second floor auditorium. To be eligible for a supervisor card, attendance is required for all three hours (in addition to the three hours required in 2014).   

Please Note: Public Act 187 states, "The person or persons in charge of school bus operations at a school shall successfully complete 6 hours of supervisory continuing education every 2 years after the successful completion of the beginning school bus driver training program."

Wayne County Transportation Trainers Association Meetings

These meetings will provide valuable updates and special programs that will assist participants in obtaining and sharing information designed to enhance the training of Wayne County School Bus Drivers. All Trainers Association meetings are scheduled from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.  The 2012/2013 meetings will be held in Wayne RESA Education Center, second floor auditorium on the following dates:
