Information and Placement Rights for Deaf, DeafBlind, and Hard-of-Hearing Students

Families of students who are Deaf, DeafBlind, or Hard of Hearing have the right to receive information about educational placement options and available supports. The Michigan Department of Education encourages families to review resources provided by the Michigan School for the Deaf, which offers a comprehensive academic program, including an optional residential component, and serves as a potential Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) placement option within the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE) framework.

The Information and Placement Rights resource provides details about the school’s mission, admissions process, academic programs, residential services, student opportunities, campus tours, tuition information, and contact resources for families.

To learn more, visit the Michigan School for the Deaf Placement and Residential Information webpage here or contact the Michigan Department of Education Office of Special Education Information Desk at 1-888-320-8384 or MDE-OSE@Michigan.gov.
