The Next Generation Science Exemplar (NGSX) is a workshop series designed to explore the major ideas found in the National Research Council Framework and the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). These documents are at the core of the 3-Dimensions of the Michigan Science Standards. NGSX participants experience 3-dimensional science learning as both student and teacher using the Disciplinary Core Idea of Structure and Properties of Matter. They experience an anchor phenomenon and then engage in 3 key Science and Engineering Practices: Modeling, Argumentation, and Explanation. The second half of NGSX is integrating three-dimensional learning into science classrooms. Teachers learn key strategies and structures to support students in using science and engineering practices to develop, apply, and refine disciplinary and cross-cutting ideas. Teachers engage in these practices and investigate classroom cases to explore how to bring these approaches into their own classrooms, evaluate newly aligned curricula, and contribute to more balanced assessment systems for science. To learn more about NGSX visit:www.ngsx.org.

What is an ISD? Intermediate School District

ISDs — which sometimes go by the name Regional Educational Service Agency (RESA) or Educational Service Agency (ESA) — work with local school districts, the Michigan Department of Education, business and industry and community groups.

Each ISD works with its local school districts to develop the mix of products and programs to maximize benefits for that area. ISDs increase cost savings for schools, expand educational opportunities, provide professional learning for teachers, and much more.
