This workshop meets the Michigan Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) requirement for implicit bias training for health professionals. This training will provide K-12 professionals training regarding the issue of implicit bias and how it relates to their areas of practice. In response to racism being named a public health crisis, the Michigan legislature has required all healthcare professionals to receive training on the topic of implicit bias. Specific areas to be covered by this training include how implicit bias is defined, how it exists and functions within systems and institutions, and how practitioners can notice, reflect on, and begin to redress their own implicit biases.Participants will learn about historical trauma and power structures, how they both manifest and perpetuate a culture of bias, and how doing internal work can begin to reverse the harm implicit bias causes in our school communities.CE Credits available for nurses and social workers.

Meetings will emphasize using curricular resources, engaging students, growing teacher capacity, and effective instructional routines. While our overarching vision for learning is similar each year, we engage in variations on how we address that learning each year - bringing in new articles, videos, and specifics of content to build math leadership capacity over a series of years. Each ISD works with its local school districts to develop the mix of products and programs to maximize benefits for that area. ISDs increase cost savings for schools, expand educational opportunities, provide professional learning for teachers, and much more.
