The WTCP Pathway Journey
1. Why WTCP?
Through the data gathering and needs assessment process, districts/schools shared startling data around the number of uncertified staff.
2. Establishing a Team
An Internal RESA steering committee was formed to brainstorm ideas and possible technical assistance.
3. Using Street Data
Surveyed teachers and administrators to find out who was eligible and how we could help.
4. Making it Happen
Designed programming in collaboration with WRESA, Our Identified Wayne County Constituents and the Michigan Department of Education.
5. WTCP Program Begins
An 8-week program began July of 2023 providing specific content/areas of study, mentoring & test preparation support.
6. WTCP Ongoing Support
Completion of WTCP provided vouchers to take the MTTC. Participants were called, asked about testing, and reminded of resources and potential continued support with our programming.

About WTCP
The Wayne RESA Teacher Certification Pathway Program is an opportunity for aspiring educators in identified schools to receive coaching, mentoring, test prep and professional practice to encourage and support successfully passing the MTTC (Michigan Test for Teacher Certification).
How and why WTCP was created
This program seeks to support and encourage aspiring teachers who anticipate taking the MTTC (Michigan Test for Teacher Certification/Specific Subject Area Tests for teacher certification.) Wayne RESA's Teacher Certification Pathway program prepares, encourages, and supports those who have been unsuccessful in passing the exam previously and is here for those taking the MTTC for the first time.
Who we serve

- Individuals enrolled in, or who have completed, an MDE-approved alternate route program but have not yet passed (or never taken) the MTTC/Subject Test for certification.
