Teacher Planning & Prep
Teachers prepare small group activities, group meeting materials, books, and supplies for the day.
9:00 – 9:45
Arrival, Greeting & Breakfast
Greet each family and child as they arrive. Help children use the restroom, wash hands, and respond to questions of the day and sign in. Teachers eat with children during family-style breakfast.
9:45 – 10:00
Group Meeting
Give a signal to gather the group together. Start with a welcome song, discuss attendance, review the question of the day, and conduct a large group activity and share good news.
10:00 – 11:20
Planning, Choice, Clean‑up, Recall
Children always initiate activities and carry out their own intentions. Adults play with and encourage problem solving with materials during social conflict.
11:20 – 11:40
Small Group
Introduce new concepts or reinforce skills children are developing. Encourage conversation and the sharing of ideas. Ask questions, pose new challenges, and document what children know and can do.
11:40 – 11:50
Small Group Read Aloud #1
Children and teachers participate in Essential Reading: Interactive Read Aloud.
11:50 – 12:30
Outdoor Prep / Outdoor
Observe and interact with children, lead activities, or assist games and movement activities that promote large muscle development.
12:30 – 1:15
Lunch / Lunch Prep
Family-style: children serve themselves, choose whether to eat and what to eat. Adults sample the food and support conversation. Children assist with cleaning up and setting up cots.
1:15 – 2:30
Rest Time / Wake Up
Help children rest and get comfortable. Supervise the rest period at all times. Sleeping or quiet, solitary, or your-own-choice play. Includes time for preparation.
2:30 – 2:45
Snack Time
Family-style: children serve themselves, choose whether to eat and what to eat. Adults sample the food and support conversation. Children assist with cleaning up.
2:45 – 3:00
Small Group Read Aloud #2
Children and teachers participate in Essential Reading: With Reference to Print.
3:00 – 3:20
Small Group
